9 Steps to Develop Greater Self-Awareness – Steps 6 & 7
Step 6: Ask Your Friends For Feedback
- Ask your friends to describe you
- Ask them to list your strengths and weaknesses
- Plead with them to be honest and be aware or your emotions when they are
Try to remember that it's not just about asking for other people's input, but to be willing to accept it and embrace it even though it might not make you feel warm and fuzzy. When people do offer their perception of you, be sure to express your appreciation and encourage them to continue to share that feedback with you in the future.
Step 7: Think About How You Deal With Stress
- How do you handle stress?
- What’s your favorite way to numb yourself? Do you eat, drink alcohol, get sleepy, become grumpy, watch TV or?
- How do you treat others when you’re stressed?
- What challenges have you caused for yourself by dealing with stress poorly?
Extra Credit: Try going one step further and think about your favorite "flavor" of Stress.
- What causes the majority of stress in your daily life?
- Do you feel overwhelmed most days?
- When do you feel little/no stress?
